Recreation, Academy, Challenge and Classic Level Soccer in Chatham County NC

Competitive Travel Programs

CSL is a small, yet growing, league and as such we are limited in the number of travel teams we can field in any age/gender division season to season. We usually have one team at each level, sometimes two and sometimes none. That team is often composed of players with a wider range of skills than you would find on teams in larger leagues. Our teams will often be composed of players who in other leagues would be classified as "Classic", "Challenge" and quite possibly "Recreation". Whether a team is classified as Challenge or Classic (and the promotion/relegation thereof) in a given season depends on a variety of factors including the performance of the team in past seasons, the makeup of the upcoming roster, league availability and the opinion of the team's coaches as well as the director of coaching for the league.

CASL Challenge League

By U.S. Youth Soccer, U.S. Soccer, and the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association standards, the NCYSA Challenge Program is a competitive level of play, because tryouts are conducted to form teams. Challenge teams travel throughout the state of North Carolina; however, travel is usually limited to a smaller radius than the Classic level. The NCYSA Challenge Program allows for players developing beyond the Recreation Level to play at a more competitive level with modified travel time to and from games. The Challenge Program is available for U11s to U18s. All Challenge Teams must be a member of a currently registered association that is in good standing with the NCYSA such as the Chatham Soccer League.

CSL plays in the CASL Challenge League. Practices take place twice a week on fields in Chatham County while all games are in Wake County on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Most games will be scheduled for Saturday by CASL Scheduling personnel but this is not guaranteed.

Challenge teams participate in one tournament each season as part of the fees. Fees also include referee fees, player registration and insurance with NCYSA and any coach fees. Uniforms are a separate fee and issued on a two year cycle.

Schedules are posted on the team pages for individual teams as well as under the Site Links for all CSL teams in the CASL Challenge program.

NCYSA Classic League

NCYSA Classic Program is the highest level of youth soccer prior to the Olympic Development Program (ODP). CSL travel teams that perform exceptionally well at the Challenge level are eligible for promotion to the Classic league divisions in subsequent seasons. Once a team is part of the NCYSA Classic league, it is subject to promotion and relegation rules found in the Classic Handbook. The distance of travel will vary based upon the division in which the team competes. Travel can be local, regional or statewide. Classic is available for teams from U11 to U18 with CSL.

CSL plays in the NCYSA Classic League. Practices take place twice a week on fields in Chatham County. Games will usually take place on Saturday or Sunday. Home games will be on fields in Chatham County with away games across the state depending on which Classic division and region the team is assigned to. The division and region assignment is done by NCYSA personnel.

Classic teams participate in two tournaments each season as part of the fees unless otherwise noted. Fees also include referee fees, player registration and insurance with NCYSA and any coach fees.   Uniforms are a separate fee and issued on a two year cycle.

Schedules are posted on the team pages for individual teams as well as under the Site Links for all CSL teams in the NCYSA Classic program.
