Assessment and Try-out Process
The assessments/try-outs are a formal process required by NCYSA for competitive teams. Guidelines are strict regarding recruiting and what is allowed and not allowed. Try-outs and evaluations are open to any age appropriate player. These are outlined in the NCYSA Disciplines and Appeals manual in section 8.2.
There are two steps to registering for the assessment / try-outs:
Step 1, pre-register online now!
Players are asked to pre-register online (click the button below to be taken to the registration page). There is no cost for pre-registration and it greatly simplifies the check-in process. It is also really easy!

Step 2, check in on the date of the assessment / try-out with the below items in hand:
Check-in starts promptly at the time indicated. Check-in is expected to last 30 minutes at the most. To make the check-in process fast and efficient, you should do the following.
Check-in with Chatham Soccer League staff on the try out date. The following are done at check-in:
- Turn in the NCYSA Medical form. Download the form HERE, and complete before arrival.
- Receive two t-shirts which are to be worn at all try-outs/evaluations and subsequent team practices.
- Receive try-out numbers to apply to t-shirts.
- Get player photograph taken.
During the assessments / try-outs, players will go through a warm-up followed by a technical training session to evaluation their skill level. This will last approximately 30 minutes. For the remainder of the time the players will play a game. During the entire session, players will be evaluated by coaches and Chatham Soccer League staff based on their technical, tactical, physical and psychological skills.
Players should bring a ball, shin guards, cleats and water bottle.
Attendance at all sessions related to the team you are interested in joining is required.
