Volunteering with Chatham Soccer League

Like most youth sports leagues, Chatham Soccer League is a non-profit entity that exists, runs and grows almost solely with the help of local volunteers. CSL is always seeking players, parents, supporters, those adults who continue to play soccer and want to see soccer programs grow, and any other interested people as volunteers in many different capacities with the league.

If you feel led to get involved with Chatham Soccer League, get in touch with our Executive Director (director@chathamsoccerleague.org) or League President (president@chathamsoccerleague.org). Volunteering with CSL will teach you more about the game of soccer, mentoring youth, contributing to your community, leading in a non-profit, event planning and management, and even maintenance of soccer fields.  You will also meet lots of new people in the Chatham County community, and learn more about other areas of the growing county we live in.

There are many ways you can volunteer with Chatham Soccer League, in all kinds of time frames (a short commitment like a morning work day, up to a multi-year commitment as a board member).  Training and mentorship is provided, so do not worry if you don't feel like a "pro" in the volunteer position you are interested in!

Chatham Soccer League's job descriptions manual can be found here,  CSL Job Descriptions Manual,
detailing each volunteer position. This can feel like too much information at first, so below is a listing of some of the volunteer positions you may be interested in:

Coaching:  A large majority of CSL's coaches and assistant coaches are volunteers with a real passion for soccer, and who want to teach the game to our youth. Some have previous playing and/or coaching experience, others begin with little or no experience in the Recreation Soccer league, and build their experience from there, and through coaching education and mentor-ship.

Team Managers: Each Chatham Soccer League team is required to have a team manager, usually a parent of a player on the team who is detail-oriented, and wants to assist the coach with organization, communicating with the team (through an app, emails, texts), assisting at games with referee fees, planning team outings, etc.

Board Membership:  Board members meet monthly to set the agenda of Chatham Soccer League, visualize its growth, and work in conjunction with the Executive Director on the management of the club. Board members also work throughout the year on other projects within CSL.  Positions include president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and at-large board positions.

Work Days and other Special Events:  Volunteers are needed at field maintenance work days (where we improve fields, repair nets, paint lines), and at special events like Academy Festivals (tournaments) and CSL's annual "Soccer Celebration" in May.

Liaisons:  Chatham Soccer League is passionately committed to bringing organized soccer instruction and competition to ALL parts of Chatham County,  and relies on liaisons to facilitate that growth. Liaisons serve in communities, helping communicate with their neighbors about CSL, facilitate communication with communities where English is not their primary/only language, help form partnerships with local schools and coaches, etc.

And many more:  If you have a talent, and feel it might help with Chatham Soccer League, let us know!  Other examples are photographers, videographers, business people, fundraisers, grant writers, etc.
